Roadster(vario roof)
1996 - 2004
Designer : Michael Mauer , Murat Gunak , Bruno Sacco
The world's first mass-produced compact roadster to feature an electrically retractable hardtop — the "Vario Roof" — which stows into the boot in approximately 25 seconds at the touch of a button, redefining the open-car concept. Based on the W202 C-Class, the sporty design by Michael Mauer, Murat Gunak and Bruno Sacco caused a sensation on its debut. Engine options included four- and six-cylinder units, with the AMG SLK 32 producing 354 ps from a supercharged inline-six.

Roadster (vario roof)
03/2004 - 03/2011
Designer : George Melosch , Frank Pfisterer , Steve Mattin , Gorden Wagener , Peter Pfeiffer
Retained the Vario Roof while evolving to a more dynamic design. Based on the W203 C-Class with significantly improved body rigidity over its predecessor. Engine options spanned four-cylinder, six-cylinder and V8 units, with the AMG SLK 55 producing 360 ps from a naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V8. The optional "Magic Sky Control" electrochromic glass roof, which changes transparency with voltage, was a notable technological innovation.

Roadster (vario roof)
03/2011 - 06/2020
Designer : Il-hun Yoon , Gorden Wagener
Focused on weight reduction and driving dynamics, shedding 139 kg over the outgoing model and transitioning primarily to turbocharged engines. The AMG SLK 55 retained a naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V8 producing 422 ps. Renamed SLC in 2016 to clarify its relationship with the C-Class family. The Vario Roof became available in combination with a panoramic glass panel. No successor was announced, bringing the SLK/SLC lineage to a close with this generation.
