A distinctive model combining the W202 C-Class platform with the front-end styling of the E-Class (W210). The "CLK" designation reflected its character of pairing a C-Class body with E-Class engines. Offered as a coupé (C208) and cabriolet (A208). The AMG CLK 55 produced 347 ps from its V8 and proved highly popular as a performance coupé. Facelifted in 1999.

Second generation based on the W203 C-Class platform. Gorden Wagener's flowing design gave the model a sportier and more refined character than its predecessor. Available as a coupé (C209) and cabriolet (A209). The CLK 63 AMG produced 507 ps from its V8, making it the most powerful CLK of its era. The track-focused CLK 63 Black Series remains legendary among enthusiasts. Facelifted in 2005. The successor was the C207, repositioned under the E-Class family.
