A historic model as Mercedes-Benz's first SUV, produced at the Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant. Notable for its appearance in the film "The Lost World: Jurassic Park." A unibody construction delivered a level of on-road comfort that set it apart from traditional off-roaders. Bruno Sacco and Peter Pfeiffer's design established the template for the first Mercedes SUV.

Grew in body size over its predecessor, expanding interior space and luggage capacity. A seven-speed automatic transmission improved both fuel efficiency and driving dynamics. Steve Mattin and Peter Pfeiffer's more overtly sporty design refreshed the model's character. 4MATIC was extended across the range. The AMG ML 63 produced 510 ps from its naturally aspirated V8.

Renamed from ML to GLE at the 2015 facelift alongside a full model change. Weight reduction and revised engines brought a significant improvement in fuel efficiency. A PHEV variant was offered ahead of the broader electrification trend. The AMG GLE 63 produced 557 ps from its V8 biturbo. The GLE Coupé (C292) was derived from this generation.

A coupé-roofed SUV derived from the V167 GLE. The AMG GLE 63 produces 571 ps from its V8 4.0-litre biturbo, while the AMG GLE 63 S raises output to 612 ps from the same engine. The AMG GLE 53 produces 435 ps via an inline-six mild-hybrid system. PHEV variants are also available. A more refined and sporting design over the C292 has further strengthened Mercedes-Benz's position in the SUV coupé segment.
